As the oldest public course in Lincoln, Nebraska, Pioneers Golf Course was built in 1930.  Originally 27 holes, the layout is spread across a gradual hill the beautiful clubhouse sits atop.  Now a 18 hole course it has become one of, if not the most popular course in the area.  Nine years in a row Pioneers GC has lead all the courses in Lincoln with the number of rounds played, and we want to take this opportunity to thank all our players for getting us to that accomplishment!

Golf sometimes can be windy golf!  If you struggle with the wind here is a couple of things to think about...

1.  Swing easy when its breezy.  A good saying for any ability of golfer.  As we try to battle the Nebraska winds, most of us try to keep our distances by swinging harder.  The problem is that if we do this we are producing more spin on the golf ball.  THIS IS NOT GOOD.  If you have side spin it will make your left or right miss worse.  If you have a straight shot it will cause the ball to "balloon" and lose even more distance.  Take a club more and take a nice EASY swing instead!

2.  Use clubs with less loft around the greens and widen your stance.  How many times have you been short of the pin with a 20 yard shot when the wind is in your face but you decide to fly a lob or sand wedge the whole way to the hole?  Try a 9 or 8-iron and playing a "long" bump and run with a wider stance for stability in the wind.  Make sure and choke down on the club and you will be sure to see better results!
